A Crystal Ball Reading

I gaze into a cloudy quartz sphere, what do I see?

A hand with a broken thumb, land lying low on the sea, stars speckled above the mountains.

Hands make us feel as if we have control in the world. Hands are what we use to do things. The hand with a broken thumb symbolises our lack of control whether in our social life or our love life. The land lying low on the sea is vulnerable to nature. The stars speckled above the mountains hint at the bigness of the universe and our insignificance in it. We are a tiny pinpoint, a prick of light, but the world around us is huge and intimidating.

I feel that all of the symbols point in the same direction. They show our smallness, our vulnerability, our lack of control over the vicissitudes of life. These aren't necessarily bad things. It can be freeing to remember that we are not in control of all things. It can be a relief to realise that not everything is our fault. It's scary, too, knowing that there is so much beyond our control. But it is a fear we have to face. At least, that is what I believe this reading is trying to tell us.

Imagine you are floating, star-shaped, on the sea. Feeling the waves moving beneath you. Seeing the bigness of the sky above you. That is just a hint of our position in this world: open and vulnerable. Surrounded by both majesty and potential danger. But floating on the sea is a positive feeling, no? You can feel the sun on your face, and see the great beauty of the blue sky. It is this dichotomy, of both danger and pleasure that I see and feel in this reading.
